George Toriello sent me this information on January 7, 2020 about Joseph C. Ellis’ service during World War II

Joseph C. Ellis’ name is on the Plaque at City Hall in Hackensack listing those men who gave the Supreme Sacrifice.

Joseph C. Ellis was born in Pennsylvania in 1925, but by the Federal Census of 1940, he was living at 169 Kansas Street in Hackensack, New Jersey.  He would have been 18 years old around 1943, so he probably entered service around that time.

Joseph C. Ellis was a Private in the Army with the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division.

Joseph C. Ellis was Killed in Action on January 3, 1945 during the
Battle of the Bulge, while fighting was going on in northeast France, eastern Belgium, and Luxembourg areas.

Joseph C. Ellis received the Purple Heart for his sacrifice.

Joseph C. Ellis is buried in Belgium in the Henri-Chappelle American Cemetery.
